Ice-cover phenomenon in winter poses a threat to grid safety and may lead to sagging or even breakage of transmission lines. Traditional manual inspection methods have limited efficiency in the presence of vast transmission lines and are risky when operating in bad weather and complex terrain.


To improve monitoring efficiency and reduce risk, we have introduced an intelligent transmission line icing monitoring system. This device is able to automatically detect the ice cover on the line and allow users to directly see the ice cover status through a visualisation interface. Once the ice cover is too thick, the device will automatically alarm the user, helping to take timely measures to safeguard the safety of the power grid.


The transmission line ice monitoring system is designed to realise real-time online monitoring of the ice-covered condition of power grid lines. The system utilises advanced online monitoring equipment to detect the ice-covering phenomenon on the line in real time and is able to calculate the equivalent ice-covering thickness of the line. In addition, the system contains a centralised management and decision support sub-system for unified management and intelligent analysis of the status information of grid lines.


The system is mainly composed of the following parts:


1. transmission line ice-covering online monitoring terminal subsystem: responsible for collecting real-time data of line ice-covering and providing raw information for subsequent analysis.


2. Line status wireless communication sub-system: through wireless communication technology, the monitored ice-covering data is transmitted to the central monitoring platform in real time to ensure the immediacy and accuracy of the information.


3. Transmission line status information management and decision-making sub-system: comprehensively manage the collected line status information and provide decision-making support for grid operation and maintenance by using data analysis technology.


The system is designed with grid security and operation and maintenance efficiency in mind, and through real-time monitoring and intelligent analysis, it effectively prevents and responds to the risks brought about by line ice-covering, and guarantees the stable operation of the power grid. Through centralised management of line status information, the system is able to respond to ice-covering conditions in a timely manner and take appropriate measures to reduce outages and improve the reliability and security of the grid.
